File Extension Playlist

While there are a great number of different file extensions which contain playlist data, there are only a few which are actually have the complete word as their extension suffix, for example; "file.playlist". A playlist, as the name implies, is a type of file which houses a listing of paths to certain 'playable' media files, such as music and movies. Additionally, in many of the modern types of specific playlist files information is stored about the files which are listed, such as title, artist, and album information. This extra layer of labeling helps the user to better organize their files into an order they prefer. These types of files are generally able to be viewed and edited with any generic text editor, but unless you thoroughly understand the formatting structure of whichever type you're working with it will likely be easier to use the playlist editing function of the software which created the file in the first place.

Regtask was able to clean up my computer and speed up the performance! I highly recommend it

Jo H.

My computer was always popping up with registry errors and I couldnt get rid of them. Regtask did the job for me and took less then 5 minutes to speed up my computer.

Samantha J.

I have to admit I'm no computer geek. When something goes wrong, I usually have to call someone to fix it and it costs me a lot of money. When my computer started to experience random freezes, I just used Regtask and now it works normally again.

David G.

My computer is 5 years old and runs extremely slow now. I was a bit sceptical about using Regtask, but just decided to give it a shot in the end and it worked out fantastically for me.

The only software which uses the .playlist extension is Cyberlink PowerDVD, which has been on the market for many years now. It is still maintained, and is often bundled with computer hardware or complete computer systems. As one might expect, PowerDVD uses this software to queue up a list of files which it finds playable in a particular order which is specified by the user. While functionally the same as many other types of playlist files, the formatting is slightly different, and contains DVD specific information, as that is primarily the type of media this software plays.

More Info Regarding File Extension Playlist

For reference, here is a brief list of some of the other playlist file extensions; .pls (universal), .m3u (streaming media URL), and .asx (Windows Media streaming). If you think you may have a 'playlist' file, it is important to distinguish exactly what you mean between these two choices: When you say 'playlist' are you referring to the specific file extension, which is the acronym after the '.' in a file name? If you are, then there is only one program which will interpret that type of playlist, and that is Cyberlink PowerDVD. If the file locations in your playlist don't point to files which can be read by that software, it may be that the playlist file was mislabeled. If you think you are supposed to be dealing with a playlist file which can be opened by most any media player, or you have many different media types and are sure that not all of them are DVD video then try renaming the file to ".pls". A .pls playlist can be read by most any media player across even different operating system platforms. At its most basic level, this file can be just a line by line listing of the exact file path and nothing more, making it extremely easy for the average user to manipulate and edit, as well as read.

When a file is comprised of human readable text and symbols, it makes troubleshooting less difficult in many ways. The first example I'll offer is the scenario of a user in a hurry accidentally saving a playlist under the wrong name. The user later tries to open the file, but the files that are played are not what is expected; rather than listening to each individual song, the list of files can be viewed so that the playlist's contents can be identified. Another example is in the case of data corruption. Should the user save a playlist file or download it and there is some sort of error and the data within is damaged, it will actually be seen when viewed with a text editor as unintelligible or completely missing. If you come across a file that is not labeled with an easily identifiable extension but you think that it may be a playlist, if you know what a file path looks like and you see many complete file paths to media upon opening the file in question with any text editor, then you know you have a playlist. Try saving it first as the universal playlist format, .pls, and attempt to open it in the media player of your choice. If you are troubleshooting and have identified the source of your problem to be data corruption, retransmit the file, if possible from a mirrored location to reduce the possibility of server-side damage.
